The Ogun State Police command have apprehended a school teacher, Mr Edet Umoren for killing his proprietor’s granddaughter in anger over being owed two month’s salary. In perhaps the most horrific crime of 2016 Mr Edet who is also the Treasurer of his proprietors church grabbed the 10 year-old girl into the bush where he beheaded her.
Mr Edet Umoren had committed the bizarre crime in Esugbo, Itamerin near Ijebu-Ife in Ijebu East Local Government Area of the state. He apparently beheaded the 10 year old granddaughter of his proprietor, Precious Adedeji of Favor Nursery and Primary School because Pastor Olitoye owed him N8,000 for his January and February salaries.
According to the police, Mr Umoren, also cut off the right hand of the girl after he seized and dragged her into a nearby bush, only a day after she celebrated her birthday. Mr Edet Umoren, was alleged to have grabbed Precious when she and a friend of her’s, Patricia, were returning to the school premises from where they had gone to buy biscuits.
Patricia, reportedly escaped from the scene and ran back to the school premises to inform the proprietor of the attack by the teacher whom she called Uncle Edet. Apparently, the proprietor said he had pleaded with Mr Umoren to exercise patience till the end of this week to enable him to pay the salaries owed him.
Pastor Olitoye disclosed that Mr Edet Umoren left two short notes at the Crime scene, claiming that he beheaded the girl because of the failure of the proprietor to pay him his two months’ salaries of N8,000. It is also alleged that the Mr Umoren had stolen over N250,000 from the church fund which he was in charge of.
The distraught grandfather, Pastor Olitoye said he had planned to terminate the appointment of the teacher on Friday, which made him to issue him a query before he committed the crime. Confirming the incident, the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi, said Mr Umoren had been arrested.
