The Enugu Police Command have uncovered several decomposing bodies apparently buried in graves dug underneath a proposed church located at the Enugu-Port Harcourt Express Way, the police believe that these corpses may have been used for ritual killings.
The Bodies which were discovered yesterday, were laid inside the foundation of the building which police suspect to be a church under-construction, in the Ugwuaji area of the state. Our sources disclosed that the construction of the church building started not too long ago and the building’s foundation had just been laid, with the concrete from the foundation laying totally covering the bodies.
This ugly incident unraveled when one of the construction workers at the church building, heard about the sacrificial burial of the victims inside the foundation before concrete was laid on it and he promptly alerted police force, After receiving the information, operatives form the Enugu police command where mobilized together with some laborers who dug up the building’s foundation and uncovered the corpses laid inside.
Passers-by’s where shocked at the development and called on the police to do all within their power to fish-out the perpetrators of the heinous act, who they are speculating could be ritualists. Some residents in the area have alleged that the building in question purported to be a church, actually belonged to a ritualist who was disguising himself as minister of the Gospel.
The spokesman for Enugu Police Force Command, Ebere Amaraizu, in a press briefing said: “Three decomposing bodies were discovered and full scale investigations have commenced with a view to unmasking circumstances surrounding the incident.”
The Incident has thrown the Ugwuaji residents into a state of shock and fear as security operatives have swung into action to crackdown on the ritualist and his associates who may have killed and buried the victims at the site. Most local residents, however are in support of the efforts being made by the police to fish out the people responsible for the atrocity and bring them to justice, describing their actions as barbaric and atrocious.
One resident said: “This is wickedness of the highest order. Accusing fingers are being pointed at a particular new church along that road, I don’t know who did this but I must say that the wicked will never go unpunished.”
